Yesterday the Roses squad was announced ahead of this year’s World Team Cup in Liverpool and we are so proud to see NPA Player Reps Serena Guthrie, Jo Harten, Fran Williams and Nat Panagarry named in the 12 strong squad.
The 2019 Netball World Cup will be the 15th staging of the premier competition in international netball, contested every four years. The tournament will be held from 12–21 July 2019 at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool.
An exciting announcement also came from Sky Sports as they confirmed that Sky Sports Mix would be renamed Sky Sports Netball from 12 July and would be showing all 60 matches from the World Cup.
This marks a huge development for Netball and for women’s sport in the UK, as the first channel of its kind to solely dedicate every minute of coverage to women’s sport. Perhaps even more significant is that the BBC will also be covering the Netball World Cup, which will make netball available to the widest audience of dedicated fans and introduce the sport to thousands more.
Netball is booming in the UK, recognition of the game has never been so high following the success of the Roses at the Commonwealth Games last year but this year’s World Cup is an opportunity to further cement the elevation of the game from playground to the world stage.
As netball continues to shift into a professional era, the NPA recognises the importance of its role in advocating on behalf of the best interest of all players. Providing a player voice and protecting the welfare of England’s elite netballers past and present.
